We had a fantastic week on Groote Eylandt training our two Cane toad detection dogs Rusty and Ozzie to help keep Cane Toads of the island. The maintenance training on the dogs and the handler training ensured all are ready and operational on the docks and airport.
We even managed to do some filming for an up and coming show for an English production house featuring Ozzie to be broadcasted next year in the UK then the rest of the world.

Rusty is the middle of an intensive training program learning the skills for detecting Cane Toads. Rusty is originally from Sydney and was selected by Gary as a suitable dog for this very important task.
Over the next four weeks Rusty will complete the cane toad detection training and then will accompany Gary Jackson to the beautiful Groote Eylandt in the NT in this important task of keeping the Eylandt cane toad free.

Australia’s first cane toad detector dog will spend three months at Moreton Island off the Queensland coast, to undergo further training.
Nifty, a five-year old female Belgian Malinois, has been working closely with Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) State Cane Toad Initiative technical officer, Sandy Fleisher for the past three years
Ms Fleisher, who will accompany Nifty on the trip, said they would meet with the owner of Queensland dog training company Multi-National K9, Gary Jackson.
“Mr Jackson is an experienced dog trainer who will provide guidance and training to further develop Nifty’s skills as a detector dog,” Ms Fleisher said. Read More……
Ozzie the cane toad detection dog is doing great work on Groote Eylandt.
